Attune
AT ASA BARN
a creative exhale.
FEBRUARY 26TH-28TH 2027, IPSWICH, MA
ATTUNE
What is
at asa barn?
Three days tucked away in a spacious, beautiful, cozy barn with six photographers, our cameras, a loose schedule, and nowhere else to be.
Wake up to the wolves howling in the distance (yeah, seriously). Enjoy slow mornings and coffee around the kitchen island, echoing chatter and laughter.
Long dinners, luscious pours of Barolo and conversations that keep going after the plates are cleared.
Making pictures free of expectations.
Time to wander off alone, come back together, and get curious about what we're drawn to, what feels like ours, and what keeps us wanting to create.
Because the photographs are only part of it.
I don't know exactly what will happen when we put these six people in this place together. I just know it'll be so good.
That's Attune at Asa Barn.
ATTENTION PLEASE
your work needs it.
MAKE ROOM for what keeps you making.
I want to keep making art for the rest of my life.
And I want it to keep feeling alive. That takes tending to.
Weāre surrounded by an endless stream of other peopleās ideas, images and opinions, and it takes an increasing amount of practice to stay close to our own.
Attune is about building rituals that keep us curious, paying attention, and making work from our own perspective.
Because there is something magnetic about work that could only have come from the person who made it.
We need this. The world needs this. Iām not at all exaggerating.
āThe more I get to know myself as an artist,
the more I get to know myself everywhere else.ā
HEREāS WHAT WEāLL
really be getting intoā¦
Styled Sessions
One at sunset and one indoors the following morning, plus time photographing our in-house chef, Mary at work. No expectations.
Bodywork
Rootbloom Bodywork will be with us providing everyone a 45 minute private massage tailored to your specific requests.
The Practice
Iāve collected practices, questions, books, and ideas that help me stay close to myself and my work. Iāll bring some of those to Asa and weāll explore them together, with plenty of room to think about what a creative practice looks like in your own life.
Sound Bath
This 90 minute group experience is a restorative journey and can be deeply moving.
Private Chef
Every meal prepared for us by talented local chef and restaurant owner- Mary Vyn. Every meal made with fresh ingredients, and absolutely no figuring out what to eat.
Space to Do You.
A loose schedule with actual room in it. Take a bath, go for a walk, read, write, run, sleep, chat. You don't have to maximize the weekend.
The beautiful thing about putting six photographers in a house together is that
I can't actually
plan the best parts.
I can create the container, plan for us to feast, give us opportunities to make beautiful images, and cover everything weāll need to melt into the weekend.
What I canāt plan for is the thing that only happens when all of us show up together. The energy in the room, the conversations, the friendships, whatever comes from putting these particular six people in this particular place for three days.
That's the part we make together.
some DETAILS
-
Attune is for photographers who give a shit.
You might have been doing this for fifteen years or fifteen minutes. You might make your living with a camera or have no interest in ever doing that.
What matters to me is that you're curious about your work, your own perspective, and the perspectives of the people you'll be sharing the weekend with.
-
Kind of. But probably not in the way you're thinking.
I'm not going to teach you how to shoot like me, critique your portfolio or give you a formula for finding your style.
I am going to bring fifteen years of making photographs to the table, along with the practices, questions and ideas I've gathered through years of studying art, working in this industry, and paying attention to what excites me. We'll spend some time exploring those together.
And I'm sure we'll talk about technicalities and business because put six photographers in a house and obviously we f*cking will. š¤

Making photographs is only part of being an artist. Thereās also everything Iām doing when Iām not holding a camera. What Iām reading, what Iām noticing, the questions Iām asking, the things Iām drawn to, what Iām consuming, and what Iām protecting myself from.
Thatās the practice.
At Asa, weāll spend some intentional time with these ideas. Iāll bring things for us to read, write about, talk about and try. Some together, some on your own.
Because paying attention to yourself is part of making work that could only come from you.
-
Iāll be creating two styled sessions for us- one outdoor around sunset and one the following morning. Once I know whoās coming, Iāll shape the details around the group and what feels interesting for us to explore. Weāll make use of Asa, the grounds, and whatever else catches my attention.
Thereās no expectation for what you make. The sessions are there for us to play, experiment and create together.
āā¦there were moments I wished could have lasted a little longer because they were so impactful.ā
ā
āThe biggest surprise was the emotional impact of the sound bath. It helped me quiet the constant mental noise of everyday life and reconnect with feelings and parts of myself that had been pushed aside by the demands of work, motherhood, and daily responsibilities.ā
lindsayāIt exceeded my expectations! I expected beautiful imagery and creative inspiration... and we absolutely had that! I didnāt anticipate how restorative it would feel emotionally. The balance and intention of it all was so thoughtfully executed. It felt purposeful without feeling forced, which is a hard thing to achieve.ā
RACHELāHaving Mary there was such a special touch. Being able to document her process was great... the care, the colors, the smells filling the barn... it felt like an experience in itself.ā
emilyāIt definitely met my expectations. Iāve done a few of these, so my expectations were kind of high, and they were met. It was great.ā
ā
āThe balance of the weekend, what we were doing and the connection time, was so wonderful. There was space to step away if you wanted to, and space to connect individually if you wanted to.ā
jennifera little about your host
Hey, Iām Seana (pronounced shawna).
Iāve been making photos professionally for 15 years, I went full time six years ago, and I care a lot about staying in love with this work.
Recently, I had an experience while shooting that tested a lot of what I say I believe about photography. I was challenged by my clients and had every opportunity to second guess myself, change course, and do what felt safer.
The resulting experience and images are some that will no doubt serve as a turning point in my story, a before and after. It made me realize how much the practices Iāve built around knowing myself and trusting my own perspective had actually mattered.
And somewhere along the way, I realized those practices weren't only changing the photographs I made. They changed the way I approached my work, the decisions I made, what I paid attention to, and eventually, how comfortable I felt being myself.
It rippled outward.
Thatās the part I donāt think I understood when I started. The more I got to know myself as an artist, the more I got to know myself everywhere else.
This doesnāt mean you ever stop questioning your work. It means you have somewhere to land when you do.
I donāt say this lightly. This stuff has changed me.
I want to keep making art for the rest of my life. I want it to keep feeling alive, and I want to keep building a life and a practice that makes that possible.
Attune is one of the ways Iām doing that.
I created a weekend I crave. A small group of photographers in a beautiful space, making things, talking about the work, eating incredible food, getting curious and caring for ourselves in ways that so easily get lost in the cracks of regular life.
I want to be in that room. Thatās why I made it.
ā¦
Lodging
Lodging for both nights is included. Weāll all be staying together at Asa Barn, with the whole place to ourselves for the weekend.
Rooms are shared, and beds will be assigned at random. If youāre coming with a friend and would like to room together, there will be a place to note that on the inquiry form.
All linens and towels are provided, so you can pack light and settle in.
ā
Six Spots
Just six of us.
Iām genuinely excited to see who this calls to. Once the inquiries come in, Iāll look at the group as a whole and bring together six photographers I think will have the best chemistry.
This is one of the best parts.

What to bring
